Just got a message from my infotainment device to say the key battery is low and requires replacement. This isn't the first time, and last time I went to an auto dealer, they replaced it for free in just 2 minutes, and they said it would work again.

If your car's key isn't working, it could take an extended time for a professional to reprogramme it. In most cases the EEPROM is read to find the unique code of the car. This is a risky process, as there's a good chance that the data stored in the module could be damaged. It's best to delegate this task to a professional locksmith.

An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is utilized in a broad variety of electronic devices like car keys. It stores data that includes the unique authentication codes and encryption keys that your car recognises when you use it to unlock or start the car. These codes are vital because they let the car know that you have the right key and are authorized to drive it.

If your EEPROM is damaged, the keys will not work. The issue is typically caused by using the wrong key, or by accidentally hitting one of the buttons.
